The Citroen Cactus features Air Bump door protectors – cushions of plastic which protect the bodywork. The distinctive-looking translucent panels are designed to be easy to replace if they are damaged

A new type of car door protects itself against being opened against unforgiving walls or parking bollards. Kiekert has developed a ‘brake system’ for car doors called called i-protect that automatically stops car doors from being opened if there is an obstruction..

Unfortunately it is not yet clever enough to prevent other people from opening their car doors into yours – or warding off an errant shopping trolley.
