Nobody likes to waste time fixing a puncture, especially when it’s cold, wet and dark, Just as well then that the latest generation of solid, puncture proof tyres promises at least 6,000 flat-free miles. Better still, we have a set to give away.
A truly puncture proof tyre that replicates the handling characteristics of a pneumatic tyre is a Holy Grail of cycling. Cyclists who know their history will be wary of the claims made of solid tyres, but Tannus have done a good job addressed the problems that plagued previous attempts. For a start, the tyres aren’t really solid at all – polymer compound is a dense foam so weight is comparable to a conventional tyre. The 700x23c Tannus Musai model weighs in at 380g, which is comparable with the combined weight of the puncture-resistant Continental Gator Skin, inner tube and rim tape – and that’s not taking into account the weight you save by leaving your pump, spare inner tube and tools at home.
When British inventor John Boyd Dunlop in 1887 developed the first practical pneumatic tyre (for the wooden disc wheel of his son’s tricycle), the innovation transformed the performance of bicycles – and contributed towards the development of the first car by cycling fanatic Karl Benz. Since then, attempts to produce solid puncture proof tyres for bicycles have been too much of a compromise in terms of weight, rolling resistance, grip and stability on the rim to be considered a serious alternative to inflatable tyres.
Reviews of the Tannus are favourable. Nobody knows when the puncture fairy will strike, but many commuter cyclists are willing to compromise slightly on handling and price in return for 6,000 miles of puncture-free cycling. Oh, and you don’t ever need to check your tyres pressures either.
The tyres are available in a choice of 13 colours and from £89 per pair.

Environmentally friendly cycle insurance
On the face of it, one cycle insurance policy is much like another, but the devil is the detail. How much excess you will be charged is just one of the things that varies wildly between providers. Another is so called ‘new-for-old’ replacement – many insurers use this term, but if your bicycle is more than a few years old, devalue it severely. This means you are left out of pocket when you come to replace it. Read our insider guide to cycle insurance.
ETA cycle insurance has a low standard excess of 5% (minimum £25) and offers a new-for-old for life – however old the bike, if it’s stolen you get enough to buy a new model. Furthermore, every cycle insurance policy you buy from us helps support the work of the ETA Trust, our charity campaigning for a cleaner, safer transport future.
For 25 years we have been providing straightforward, affordable bicycle insurance. Whether you use your bike to commute, shop, race or amble in the park, ETA Cycle Insurance has you covered. We never devalue bikes no matter their age, allow you to buy your replacement bike wherever you like, replace stolen quick release components and handle claims in-house.
The Good Shopping Guide voted us to provide the most ethical insurance in Britain.

Hi. Think i would be looking at 700 x 32c as mine is a cyclo-cross bike. Looks like a great product, hate punctures!
TheCyclist
What a great idea, especially for those who go off road, serious cross country, commute and ride for fun, in other words, for almost all kinds of cycling.
Dawn Stilwell
700x32c would me just fine! Perfect for my CX I use to commute on all year round
jJonathan York
Hi I would like 700x23c tyres for my road bike because when they puncture they go with a bang
Michael Bond
I would like the 700×32 set for my trusty Raleigh City commuter bike, still in regular use after 24 years!
Kim
Every few year someone tries to reinvent the solid tyre, which has been around for longer than the pneumatic tyre, but there is a reason why pneumatic tyre is so widely used. It works so much better than any solid tyre ever invented, despite the down side of punctures.
Yannick Read
Of course there’s a compromise, but solid tyre technology is ever evolving. I haven’t tried the Tannus tyres myself, but from what I hear they work well for <10 mile rides
Anne
Would love to try a set of these out please 😉
Tim
Ooh, like the look of these! Some 700 x 32c would be perfect.
Caroline Butchart
I saw these at the ride100 exhibition – would love a pair of 700x23c!

700×23 for my daughter who commutes in all weather
Claire Blamey
700 x 32c for me please – it’s my ‘car’ and I get all my shopping on the back – puncture free would be brilliant.
John
I’d love a set of 700 x 23c’s – I had a puncture on Monday, and I wasn’t even able to get the tyre off as the rims I have are so tight – broke some levers just trying!
It wasn’t a good morning, and I don’t think I can be dealing with that in the dark, cold and wet!
help me out guys!
Phil
700 x 32c would be perfect for my daily commute of 12 miles each way on my trusty Trek hybrid. 6000 miles would see me through this winter and well through next year and would take the worry away.
Reneta
I would like the 700×23c set for my road one for sure! X
David Bernstein
I’d love some 700x32c please! On wednesday I got to spend my evening fixing my puncture in the rain in the dark … As fun as it was, I would be willing to spend my evening doing something else 😉
markymark
26″ mtb please in black!
i ain’t no hipster!!
PaulK
Standing by the side of the road, it’s dark, it’s raining and it’s cold and now I have to get my rear wheel off and fix a puncture – assuming I’ve got the tools, the kit, the pump – replace the wheel and cycle home – if I’m lucky – with filthy hands.
Or I could have a pair of 700 x 23c Tannus tyres; hmmm, not sure which I prefer……
Andy
700 x 23c would suit my road bike perfectly 🙂
BH
I carry patches, spare inner tube, CO2 gas inflator, tube of foam and a pump everywhere. 26in please for my MTB.
Liam

Thanks!
Andy Clarke

Sue Holmes
Wow! I’d love to try the 700 x 32c please… Ideal for my hybrid bike.
Adrian Barnes
700x23c for me. Being in a rural area, when hedge trimming time comes around it’s not unusual to get multiple punctures in one ride. Carrying spare tubes , pump and repair kit is a pain – along with the skinned knuckles and grimy hands!!
Stormy Lovell
700 x 23c! Be grand not to worry about punctures on the road for a while 🙂 Current tubes are at a high enough pressure that it’d probably be a more comfortable ride too!
Frank Lee
I must try a pair – I get plenty of punctures – including “snake bites” for running too low a pressure in my 26 inch mountain bike!
Thomas Webster
A puncture-free winter? Just think…. 700 x 23c please.
Adam
700×23 would be lovely for winter riding!
Graham
700 x 23 for the Scottish pot holes.
Michel Everaert
With winter coming up and splintered stone covered roads to go with it, these could work a treat. Would love to try them.
Janine Thomson
700x23c would be perfect for my Pinnacle Dolomite 4. Especially when I’m commuting to work in the winter months and it’s dark, cold and wet. Fixing punctures isn’t easy in those conditions.
Julian Fargher
700 x 32c please, for commuting!
Mick
26″ MTB would be great. Hate dealing with punctures.
Alastair
I ride through the winter, would be interested in trying these out, maybe even for amateur cyclocross? 700×23 would be fine.
giuseppe
Any small sets for Brompton bikes? wouldn’t that be great
lucy

No more excuses for arriving late at meetings though..
John Cornick
700x23c please. Ideal for the larger, ok fatter rouleur 😉
Inge
700 x 23c for a bike I don’t yet have. I’m a dinosaur who rides a touring bike with 27 x 1 1/4 but I’m building myself a road bike and these would come in so handy 🙂
David Smith
Ooh, 26″ for me please! I hate punctures!!
Vicki
700x32c would be perfect for my somewhat neglected commuter hybrid. Always punctures when I really need to be somewhere!
Scott Walton
I love a pair of these as I get arthritis in my hands in the cold and it took me ages to change my tyre the past puncture I got. 700 x 23 would be great please.
JMW
700 x 32 for my bike please.
Gordon Morfitt
I’ve been waiting for these little beauties for years. Ever since I saw the idea on Tomorrow’s World back in the day. Great news. Price seems reasonable to for the mileage.
Rory Harkins
700x32c please. Would love to try them out on my commute.
Carole Baggaley

Nick

Peter Chisnall

John
I would love a set of these tyres, tried the solid ones in the early 70s but not very successful
Clif
Yes please. We would look swell on these on our bicylce made for two. Some 20″ x 2″ (50-406) would be perfect for our Helios. Or failing that a set of 700x32c would be great for my CX workhorse.
Tim

It’s coming up to autumn and with all the thorny hedgerows being trimmed around here, I certainly could use some puncture insurance! I ride a 26″ MTB… 4 punctures in one day last year!
Jason Sheppard
700 x 23c, got to be worth a shot
Richard
26″ – don’t mind the colour as long as its not orange or purple – and ideally both the same!
Mark Paterson
700×23 would be nice. It would also be nice to have even a week of commutes without a puncture, though I imagine if I add any more patches to my current tubes I may create a punters proof inner tube anyway
Steve Padmore
have my doubts but just repaired two punctures in one week so…
Yul Emirali
26″ ” If you know what’s good for you, you’ll give me the colourful Tannus tyres,” said in a Vinnie Jones gangster tone.

Karen Brady
26″ puncture proof tyres would be a great gift for my husband who has just started cycling for fun
Jean Sinclair
26inch MTB tyres please.
Liz MacGregor
These would be great to encourage my son to cycle to the station (to go to college) far more often than he does. Would also save him having to carry his pump and the occasional 6 mile walk home!
Andrew Powell
26″ puncture proof tyres would certainly lighten my commute, not having to carry the tools and puncture repair kit. I wouldn’t miss changing inner tubes in the dark and rain either.
Nick Martin
I went on a cycle repair course last week and the Brompton tyres were really hard to change. 16″ ones would be ideal for me.
Colin Green
My Wisper would love a set of Tannus 26″ (559) MTB tyres. The bike isn’t too fashion conscious but likes to be seen in the gloomy winter days and nights.

James
Would love to give the tyres a try sound good idea
drew fell
Commuting on the glass strune roads and cycle paths of Glasgow, my current marathon plus tires, which are the last set that came with kevlar rather than the new rubber ones are hanging in by thread, a pair of replacement 700 x 32 would be fantastic!
Ivan
Looks like the perfect addition to my road bike. 700 x 23c, thank you 🙂
Bill
It’s one of the (few) things not to like about cycling, i.e. trying to fix a puncture with freezing cold hands in the rain when it’s dark….Even worse if it’s at the back! Trying a pair of these (700 x 23) would certainly encourage me to go out cycling more often in the coming winter months.
Steven
Wow, at last a reliable, practical & affordable solution to the single most cumbersome maintenance niggle in daily commuting: no longer will I approach the bike each morning wondering if I’m going to lose valuable time pumping, or worse, repairing tyres & getting dirty, before the quick dash to work!
Cheuk Tang
Fantastic invention !
Dan Harpham Gist
700 X 23c please for my cannondale road bike.
Alistair Bloomfield
A set of puncture-free 26″ (559) MTB tyres would be worth a try!
Steven corless
I’d like to be the lucky winner of 26″ MTB tyres please, thanks
Mark
I would love to put these to the challenge as I ride all year round and see what they are like in all conditions, my best record was 7 punctures in 10 days so a pair of 700×23 would be a welcome trial
Jamie J
700X32 please… am feeling a bit flat.

#FingersCrossed
Christina
Great idea through and through 700 x 32 would be great on my bike…
Terry R
I have used Tannus 700/ 23 for six months and 1000 miles. They feel no different to my previous so called puncture proof pneumatic tyres which i will never go back to. All attempts to obtain solid tyres in the last two years were intensely resisted by a multitude of cycle shops. In the end I had to make a round trip of 100 miles to purchase them. It was worth the inconvenience.
Darren C
700 x 23c would be fantastic for my all year daily commute, thank you!
Lucy Jordan
Having just moved house and started a new job I am about to start a daily commute by bike, a set of these tyres would be awesome in ensuring a puncture proof journey. 26″ would be perfect. Thank you!
Christopher Patrick
Would love a set of these, just hate having to carry spare inner tube and pump. I will need 700 x 23c. Thank you.
Colin
Would love to try out a pair of these 26″ (559) MTB tyres to see if they handle as well as pneumatic tyres and get me through my commutes all winter punture free.
Paul
26″ tyres please
Anthony Rogers
I bought solid tyres a few years back, they were ok, I hope these are better though. If i win I would like a pair of the 16 inch tyres to put on our electric assist Brompton.
Ian Ramsey
These sound like a godsend especially
For the permanently late commuter
700×23 would fit my bike perfectly
Iain Shanks
I’d love to win a set of 700 x 32c for my commuting bike

Ian Harvey
700 x 23C please for my Scott Speedster 40. I commute to London daily a round trip of 40 miles.
Sarah’s Hands
Please help, our owner is incapable of checking her tire pressure without hurting us in some way. At least once a week we get cut or bruised when she is disconnecting her pump. So far we’ve managed to avoid fixing a puncture but we dread the injuries that await us should she ever attempt it. Tires that don’t require pumping up would make our lives so much better, we’d be grateful if you could send her some please.
Sarah’s bike takes 700 x 32c please.
Thank you and best wishes, Sarah’s hands
Jem
700 x 32c would be great|
Tim
Looks like they won’t let me down. 700 x 32c please.
Glynis Brewer
I dont know about sarah’s hands, but my weary body would appreciate any help it can get. 700 x 32cc please.
Steve A
700×23c would do nicely. I’d certainly like to try these out, not quite sure what colour though.
David J
They look awesome. 700 x 32c for my bike.
I’ll write you a review if I get them. Not long since I bought a new pair of Conti’s so would be good to compare.
Barry H
