Mobile sauna for talks on environmental hot topic

In arctic climates, the sauna has a powerful cultural significance as place for warmth and reflection. It’s the reason the artists Bigert & Bergström have created this egg-shaped version at Luossabacken in Kiruna, Sweden’s northernmost town, to highlight a serious local environmental issue.

Kiruna is currently being sacrificed so that a mining company can extract iron ore from beneath the town. The Solar Egg serves as a social sculpture where local people can meet and discuss these challenges.

Pop-up sauna: Perfect for year-round glamping

The sculptural mobile sauna is fabricated from stainless steel sheeting, pine and aspen. In the centre of the egg stands the wood-heated, heart-shaped sauna stove made from iron and stone. Temperatures inside the egg hover between 75° and 85° Celsius.
