Cycling and the Law: The free app to protect cyclists

Cycling and the Law app

Cycling and the Law is a new app designed to empower cyclists with instant access to free legal information and advice.

Launched today by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA), the iPhone app presents clear and concise answers to over 30 of the most common legal questions. Topics covered range from the legality of riding across a zebra crossing, to a cyclist’s rights in the event of a road traffic collision. Cyclists with a legal conundrum that is not already answered can use the app to contact a team of experienced solicitors and barristers.

Marketing manager at the ETA, Becky Gibbins, commented: “We cyclists are often treated as second-class citizens on the roads, so it pays to know our rights as well as our responsibilities in law.”

“Around 5,000 cyclists per month already visit the ETA website specifically for an answer to a legal question so this free app is designed to make life a little easier for them and others. With the roads as they are, Cycling and the Law is no less vital an accessory than a bicycle pump.”

Other features of the Cycling and the Law app include an eclectic daily feed of bicycle-related news penned by a dedicated team of experienced cyclists.

Cycling and the Law is available to download for free via the app store. Alternatively, read the online version or download an e-book here

Ethical cycle insurance

On the face of it, one cycle insurance policy is much like another, but the devil is the detail. Check your small print for so-called ‘new-for-old’ replacement – many insurers use the term, but if your bicycle is more than a few years old, devalue it severely. This means you are left out of pocket when you come to replace it.

With ETA cycle insurance, however old the bike, if it’s stolen you get enough to buy a new model. Furthermore, every cycle insurance policy you buy from us helps support the work of the ETA Trust, our charity campaigning for a cleaner, safer transport future. No wonder The Good Shopping Guide has voted us Britain’s most ethical insurance company three years in a row.
