Our whistle stop winter tour of schools in desperate need of a safe road crossing continued this week in Harrow. Saint Jerome School has been campaigning for a zebra crossing without success so this week we offered their protest a boost with our pop-up zebra crossing. Pupils were joined by a local councillor and two prospective MPs as the inflatable crossing was snapped for the local press.
The pop-up zebra crossing has been designed to be installed on any road in less than a minute. Spokesperson at the Environmental Transport Association (ETA), Yannick Read, said: “The idea may be tongue-in-cheek, but the issue is deadly serious; with over 2,000 children killed or seriously injured each year on our roads, parents should never have to battle to have a genuine crossing installed.”
