If you have a few metres of space and two minutes of sun this summer, you can sling a hammock. And in these days of social distancing and self isolation, what better way of whiling away your leisure time? Snooze, read a book or daydream about better days to come.
The word hammock originates from the Taino people of Central America who used the word hamaca to describe nets made from rope fibres. Hammocks themselves can be traced back 1,000 years to the Mayan civilization. The simple suspended beds provided a clever way to avoid dangerous creatures.
We have three modern lightweight hammocks to give away. This one-person hammock from Quechua measures a roomy 300 x 152cm and is fabricated from durable ripstop fabric. Sling it up inside, between trees in your garden or take it further afield on a future trip in place of a tent.
To be in with a chance of winning a hammock, simply leave us a comment below and let us know where you’d sling it up.
Ethical insurance
Not only are we Britain’s most ethical provider, we have a charity that campaigns for sustainable transport. Sometimes that means protesting until a school gets the zebra crossing they’ve been refused, or running 60 roadshows to encourage people out of their cars, or fixing bicycles for free. Supporting this work is easy – you can simply take out insurance with us. We provide a range of insurance products – all while putting concern for the environment at the heart of what we do.

And…relax

Just the job at 87, & for all other ages too.
Liz
Would set mine up on the balcony for lounging with a view!
Iain Shanks
Perfect for the back garden or at a nice, out of the way camping spot.
Pat
So need one of these, to sneak off down to the bottom of the garden and leave the mayhem of my house for a while!

As the only place, I know, that provides ‘break down’ cover to cyclists, I think ETA is a great organisation which encourages cyclist by giving them piece of mind and the freedom to enjoy ‘the road’ in a sustainable way.
I’d hang my hammock next to a Scottish loch, after cycling there, midges permitting.
Chris Johnson
Between trees in our garden, and also when we’re camping if we’re lucky enough to be near some handy trees!
Anca
Ahh I already see myself sitting in this hammock on the rooftop terrace we have in our building, drinking some mojito and hoping the summer weather will come soon in the UK 🙂

My daughter taught in a primary school in a remote part of Guyana for a year on behalf of The Project Trust charity. The villagers became her second family so lying in the hammock in the garden would “transport” her back to Chenapou until she is able to visit again.
Matt
Anywhere in the sunshine would be perfect.
Patricia Richardson
Love hammocks, lovely and comfortable, mould to your body.
Better than a tent.
Used mine at home, 2 hooks in ceiling, handy for extra guest.
Sling it up anywhere, go get one and enjoy. 😴👍
Dog 🐕cant jump on the bed, to waken you up 🥰

What better way to relax after a long bike ride than snoozing in a hammock in our beautiful Hrerefordshire garden.
Michaelbike
I have the place
and 2 x tree,
it seems that this
is just right for me.

I can hardly bear the “suspense” while waiting to see if I’ve won one of these.
Howard
Life’s a hammock!
Gary
A great summer gift ! It’ll get used in my shed, in my garden and on the next cycling adventure ! Zzzzzzz
Peter
Boring answer but newly seen the two trees in my garden. Been getting in the way for years so it would be good for them to serve a purpose
Pamela
Lying in a hammock is sheer bliss. I would love one
Mark B
Oh yes please. That’s proper roomy and comfortable.
Carol W
Swing hammock swing. Looks good! 🙂
David Anthony
This looks like the perfect addition to the office at the moment!
Russ Taylor
Oh, yes! A hammock of my own that my kids or my wife can’t leap into when I’m not looking
(Note: our current one in the garden is usually occupied by my wife and whilst it is a beautiful craft made item, it cannot be described as being either lightweight or compact, so not something to try and take somewhere on a bike).
Jim W
Would be great for a stop and snooze when cycling out in Northumberland, or to put up in the garden after taking the kids to school!
Pam Jibson
Sounds like a perfect way to while away an hour in the sun 👍😊
Bethan Greaves
I’d sling this hammock up in my godmothers garden in Wales to take a break from all the wedding planning we’re doing.
CraigSA
I’ve just started bike touring locally in Scotland so I can start exploring what is around me. A hammock may be useful with my tarp for where I can’t find comfortable ground
John Reed
Yes please. I would absolutely love to be the proud owner of that lovely 😍 hammock. 🥰😍😇😊
Thank you.
Les Gunbie
Wow, yes please. This would go up in a field in West Sussex …

Thank you.I would hang it up on my balcony when at home, not cycling, and on trees when on a long haul ride.

I’d sling up the hammock in nearby woodland (a local nature reserve) where we run a Woodland Wellbeing group for people with mental health issues or learning disabilities. It would be a great vantage point from where people could gaze up into the canopy and look out for birds, butterflies and squirrels!
Sean
I’d sling up a hammock between two tall and earthy-smelling Scots pines, on the shore of a Loch deep in the majestic Cairngorm mountains
Johnny Faro
I’ll miss the cheesy hanging wound joke and say yes ple
Chris Bromwich
Super little fold away hammock, now that traffic is returning to the roads the inevitable traffic jams will re appear so what better way to relax than to pull over somewhere, sling up the hammock and have a kip till the traffic is moving again!
Diane Wright
I’d really love a handy hammock like these from Quechua and to be taking it to the woods to play or stringing up between the trees in my garden for a nap in the shade when its too hot. First come first served I hope 🙂

The Stranglers – “Just Hanging Around…”
Joanne Beale
Yes please!
Inge Clemente
I’d be hanging next to the washing line.
PeteG
Brilliant. Just right for my garden between the silver birch and a convenient post. Swing away!
James
I would set mine up by my pond in the back garden and hioefully relax. Looks easy to take away if a hanging place could be found!
Steve K
I’d sling it between the best 2 trees …
please !
Stephen
Overlooking the beach in my hometown, it’s been too long!
John Davidson
Would love a hammock to while away the summer days (mostly in the rain at the moment!)
Sarah
This looks like fun, a great looking hammock.
Laura Turney
A hammock would give new purpose to two washing line poles in our garden. Digging them out impossible… I think they were sunk into a tonne of concrete fifty years ago 🤣
PeteG
Perfect for chilling out in my garden. Slung between a Silver Birch and a convenient post.
Vincent Procter
This would definitely be getting packed in my old Carradice Long Flap. Whack it up between two trees and have an afternoon snooze. What’s not to like?
Peter Chisnall
Swinging!
Rory
Always wanted to try a hammock
Greg Stoner
January a on more lap
And I’ll need a nap

My partner found loving hammocks very easy when he stayed with his brother in Australia about ten years ago. He bought a stripey one which has now frayed rather dangerously and a few weeks ago when it was hot he mentioned about getting another one as he liked the association of his brother while reading crime thrillers. This is the first summer we’ve had in our new home and he identified two tree stumps in our higgledy piggedly garden that we had been thinking of chopping down until he realised that they would be perfect to hang a hammock onto! He has been too busy to look for one and then I saw your email competition, so fingers crossed for legs outstretched!
Helen
I’ve got a perfect spot in the back garden which gets sun all day for this!
Tim Earl
Huh? Doesn’t anybody want one of these?
Zizzie Moore
I’ve got so much peace of mind having ETA insurance. If I broke down I’d sling it up by the nearest tree and chill whilst I wait for the recovery service
Damian Connaughton
Perfect for some minimal cycle touring!
