We’re offering another mystery box full of cycling-related goodies.
Just like last time, this week’s box will be bursting with brand new cycling-related items worth at least £100. We won’t list the contents now – we’ll pick a winner next week and it will be for them to discover. For those who are curious, but not lucky enough to win the mystery box, we’ll list the contents next week.

Please consider me!
Feeling lucky today, an actual car driver gave way to me when I had right of way!
To be fair that’s way too harsh – it’s not like it’s a rare occurrence in general but where I was exactly it’s super rare plus I was going pretty slow too. An active neighbourhood trial seems to have aggravated drivers and left an “inconvenient” mini roundabout nearby that seems to trigger folks into ignoring all traffic regs entirely and for a minor roads, the number of times folks have done crazy dangerous stuff is absolutely ridiculous. Upon realising the car was in fact giving way my instinct was to look for the crazy driver they’ve stopped for before it hits me… Then going wow, it’s for me – that’s nice! The driver even smiled as I nodded my thanks, it felt great to be seen as a person rather that a slow moving obstruction for a change. Still feeling lucky, riding in the sun through a fluttering rain of cherry blossom is good for the soul too.
Kevin
Yes please. Count me in.

Wally Wisper (my 14 year old electric bike) has been very well behaved this past year, especially on the Isle of Wight last September. I have bought him a brand new battery so I can’t aford some extra treats to reward him at the moment – especially as I have to renew my ETA insurance in a couple of months yet again. 😉

Unfortunately, bikes are much easier to steal than cars which is why there should be more secure cycle stores. Too many new blocks of flats are being given planning permission with apparently adequate cycle storage, but often this may be covered, but not secured with fob only access such as is increasingly provided at railway stations these days.
I am a local councillor who has made this point repeatedly to planning officers, but unfortunately my requests go unheeded. Recently, a HMO was repurposed for use as onward or transitional accommodation for people working towards independent living. None or very few residents so far have owned cars for obvious reasons, but some of those who have owned bikes kept them in the unsecured store have had them – or parts of them – stolen owing. What a blow to their efforts towards independent living….
