E-Bikes and cargo bikes tend to be more expensive to buy but their size means they can be tricky to lock. The Hiplok E-DX is a chain and D-Lock combination designed to protect over-sized frames and larger bicycles.
The E-DX isn’t to be confused with the D-lock and flimsy cable combinations sold by many lock companies as 10 mm hardened steel chain is rated Gold Standard by Sold Secure.
The loop-end design offers a 1m locking length and while it weighs a hefty 3.5kg, this isn’t as much of a factor for cargo and power-assisted bikes.
Win a Hiplok E-DX
We have a Hiplok E-DX lock worth £130 to give away. To be in with a chance of winning, simply leave us a message at the bottom of the page and we’ll pick a name next week.

Craig Cooper
Loving the look of the hiplok e, I think this would be ideal for leaving at my place of work, to lock my bike up rather than use a standard D lock.
Paula
Would really love this lock for my new ebike👍🚴♀️Paula
DarrenC
Would also be handy to use in my own garage to protect all three bikes in our household.
(As mentioned a bit bulky for carrying around to/from work as it weighs more than a quarter of my bike).
Stephen
Lower end locks are too easy to break for a determined thief, so this looks perfect for my best bike.
Victor
A wonderful piece of security!
Vincent
Sounds good. I wonder what the Lickpicking Lawyer would make of it?
Keith Reeder
It’s the want of a convincing solution like this which is precisely what stops me from using my e-bike as more than just a toy.
Richard
Loocks alright to me!
Yousaf Mirza
Looks like an excellent lock and would help our family bike security at home.

Hello
Please may we be considered for this. It would be fantastic for locking up my ebike to my husband’s,which can be a real pain to do properly.
Thank you!

I’d love this. Left two good locks outside my old workplace and my employer moved out during Covid and they knocked the place down!!

Now we’ve added an electric conversion to our lovely tandem it’s even more desirable, and as we’re out riding it more than ever this would help ensure it stays with us
Mr Christopher Rawlinson
Winning the lock would make me feel safe and secure in the knowledge that my bike will be there for my return journey
Thank you for considering me
Sam
This would be great for my bike, struggle finding spaces where I can lock mine as it’s an Xl frame, so quite a long bike, normal places are just to far away from the bike it’s impossible for me to lock the frame up.

Clive Probert
That’s really good thinking – understanding the growing demand for more e-bikes.
Bea
Yes please
David Gray
It’s important that both elements of the locking system are gold rated – you’re only as protected as the weakest link.
Geoff Deabill
This is just what I need to keep my bikes safe.
Jonathan Hunt
I managed to lose my Gold Standard HipLok a couple of months ago. How I’d love to be lucky enough to win this! Fingers crossed…..
Steve Connolly
I have my doubts if this could survive an attack by a cordless angle grinder, so is there any point making it able to survive levers and bolt cutters etc.
Colin
Lock me up please 😉
Jon PENNYCOOK
My friends are always winding me up about the weight of tbings I put in my pannier bags! I reckon this would balance out a day’s water supply and packed lunch.
Christina
Wow – this would be absolutely perfect ….. just what I’ve been waiting for. Never known for having any luck in competitions like this, but there’s always a first time, so here goes!!!

At last – a decent lock that will actually lock a Big Bike to something more substantial than a toothpick!
Philip Gregg
Great secure lock.
Sammy NEWCOMB
Looks strong!!
Martin Baker
I don’t have an e-bike, so I’d use it one TWO of my mechanical steeds.
Brian D
It would e a golden moment winning one of these.
Jane
I’d love this, struggling with a D-lock in a few locations since moving, but one is driving me mad. The only bike racks near to my localish shops have a very pretty 10″ metal plate with a parking and bike symbol on welded across the the front at the bottom completely obstructing me being able to attach my D-lock to the only available part of my small framed ladies step though (very elderly and heavy) foldable (by someone many times stronger than me) electric bike. Normal ladies bikes (ie. without a crossbar) for someone my height would struggle unless they had an extra long D-lock as the plate on one side means you can’t get close enough on the accessible side and the other is too close to railings that you can’t fit a bike in unless the handlebars go over the the height of the railings, the space was there (I think with another bike rack) before a space for 2 cars was cut out of the town square. Spaces warranted btw – disabled parking near chemist when an adjacent road was stopped up and that space given to pedestrians. Can’t lock to railings as there’s an bike rack in the way :'(
Next closest locking up point not causing an obstruction is across and down a crazy busy main road (I’m not cycling on given a choice) in a big supermarket carpark. Everywhere else I go I don’t have an issue, I don’t go there as often as I would otherwise and on bus instead if I I’m using it anyway on a day I have time. Gonna raise with councillors though.
Craig
I’d use this for stationary applications like in my garage or workplace.
james
looks perfect. a nice piece of design.
John Davidson
Would love to have one of these to lock up my electric bike. They look great!
Mr Laurence J Oliver
Nothing is totally impregnable but this lock is gold standard, which insurance companies generally insist upon. This lock plus common sense when leaving your bike should ensure it is still there upon your return.
Dave
I’d need a cargo bike to carry it
Mark
This could be a game changer for use with my electric bike, which I am too afraid to leave in the middle of town!
Nice price, thanks ETA!
Roz Franklin
This lock would give me piece of mind leaving my e bike whilst I stop to go to the toilet, or shop, or get a coffee.
KateO
Gold standard HIplock coveted by hip, car-less, golden granny for securing pricey e-cargo bike transporting priceless toddler cargo.
Gillian
I love my bike so one of these is an unfortunate necessity these days sadly. ❤️
Kevin
Use this and a thief is more likely to want to steal the lock than my bike!
Anita Brayford
Just what’s needed for a heavier and more valuable cycle
Steve
Now there is some useful heavy metal!
John Francis
Moved to a small Devon town with no bike racks so I can’t use my D locks. This would be the solution!
Chris
It would help me relax when my bike is out of sight.
Damian Connaughton
Just what I need to lock my bike up at work!
Bill
I’ve learned my lesson – twice! Unfortunately, something like this is necessary nowadays (especially in London).
