There are hundreds of bicycle lights from which to choose, but few as smart as the ICON.
The light’s output of 190 lumens (2 x 95 lumens) is by no means the highest on the market, but the ICON reacts to your situation on the road, flashing brighter & faster at roundabouts, road junctions and to approaching car headlights.
An option to link the light to your smartphone allows you to control its brightness, check how much of the battery’s 15-hour life remains. It can even send a text to warn you if your bike is being interfered with. And if you have a spill, the light detects the shock and can send an emergency text.
Win an ICON bicycle light
We have an ICON rear light worth £65 to give away. Simply leave us a comment and we will pick a name next week – we’ll do our best to get the prize to the winner by Christmas.
Environmentally friendly cycle insurance
On the face of it, one cycle insurance policy is much like another, but the devil is the detail. We never devalue bikes no matter their age, allow you to buy your replacement bike wherever you like, replace stolen quick release components and we handle claims in-house. Can your insurance provider say the same?
How much excess you will be charged is just one of the things that varies wildly between providers. Another is so called ‘new-for-old’ replacement – many insurers use this term, but if your bicycle is more than a few years old, devalue it severely. This means you are left out of pocket when you come to replace it.
ETA cycle insurance has a low standard excess of 5% (minimum £25) and offers a new-for-old for life – however old the bike, if it’s stolen you get enough to buy a new model.
For over 26 years we have been providing straightforward, affordable bicycle insurance. Whether you use your bike to commute, shop, race or amble in the park, ETA Cycle Insurance has you covered.
We have been voted Britain’s most ethical insurer. Furthermore, every cycle insurance policy you buy helps support the work of the ETA Trust, our charity campaigning for a cleaner, safer transport future.

Just the thing for these dark Scottish nights right now.

A smart light sounds like a cool addition to the never ending quest for getting noticed on Britain’s ever increasingly scary roads.
Up next, a smart bicycle light that’s smart enough to make the morning tea. (Earl Grey, slice of lemon. That’ll do nicely, ta.)

“flashing brighter & faster at roundabouts, road junctions and to approaching car headlights” would certainly help to give me the confidence to try and cycle at night. I’m too scared to try it at the moment
🙁
Claire
This is brilliant (pun not intended)! Hopefully only the beginning of a new generation of bike lights to flood the market – more of these on the roads can only be a good thing for everyone!
Anna Shakoor-Green
Just what I need at the moment for dealing with city traffic on these dark nights.
Mark B
Very useful when cycling in the night

Such freedom cycling and comfort being insured. I love reading ETA news on great technology. So much lighting choice, the IKON looks superior. I get confused and my front light doesn’t stop me being scared on roundabouts with traffic getting too close. It is quite old now though.
Thanks
Christina
Sound idea. For london cycling

THE ICON!
Many lights grace the bikes of the roads, but none like the ICON, it’s smart & has modes,
With it’s 95 lumens, to light up cars and the humans,
Flashing brighter at turns, quicker the light learns,
Roundabouts & junctions it adjusts with its functions,
The smartphone is its mate, texting you – if moved, – making you late,
Ahh, the light of Kings a Knight of the road, the ICON light – so many modes.
Phillip Legg
Oooohhhh… cool light.
Love tech like this so count me in for the opportunity to win one!!
