With a little over two weeks before the end of British Summer Time, it pays to check and – if necessary – renew your winter bike lights.
In honour of the change of season we have a USB-rechargeable Cateye Volt 200XC and Rapid Mini light set worth Β£50 to give away. To be in with a chance of winning, simply leave us a comment below and we’ll pick a winner next week.
Short on cash? Don’t think for a moment that you need to spend big bucks to get good illumination. One of our favourite rear bike lights is the high intensity light from Cree available for only Β£8 from Wilko

Sweet – that’d be handy to keep my lad cycling to school through the winter!
JohnR
Yes to lights for me, please. I like my bike to look like NASA when I’m on it – I want people to see my lights and me from a mile away. β€πππ

Cateye lights are great
Tom O ‘Toole
Nice lights!
Chris Bromwich
These look just what I need to replace my decades old non rechargeable filament bulb, battery operated, bicycle lights – and they look good too!
Jo welsh
These would be fantastic now the evenings are getting darker Iβm going to need some lights on my bike
Paul Elmer
Very timely reminder – nights are drawing in, good time to check bike lights.
Craig Young
Had several sets of Cateyes over the years and whoever wins them will be very lucky.

Brian Ronald
Oooh, I’ve lost my Volt50, this would be most useful.
Steve
Iβd love to win these for my student daughter to light her way around town.
Thanks to ETA for the opportunity.
Michael Eccles
Thanks for all your work encouraging people to walk to school. We need to keep at it!
The lights look lovely and would be a useful addition to my bike!
Jane Collier
These would be great please. Mine have been donated elsewhere so now need another pair to stay safer in the dark, especially with many more cars on the road now. I wish more cyclists would use lights, very difficult to see them especially if wearing dark clothing.
Peter Clark
Love cateye volt lights. Have used them on two on my bikes for years. Sadly lost my front light recently when it jumped off when I went over a bump – my own fault for not clicking it in place. Anyway, if youβre offering me a free replacement Iβm very happy to accept graciously k
Darren C
Yes please, is it possible to have too many lights?
You don’t realise how dim some older ones are, not that the brightest eye burning option is better, there is a limit, a car driver won’t cause you a problem 2 miles away, but blinding them as they approach certainly will.
Richard Hale
Unfortunately just had my lights stolen so i need a replacement. These look excellent.
Martin
Used Cateye lights for years – excellentπ
Ema
Yes please!
Jim Woodlingfield
Do like a cateye! We have just acquired a Pahley U Plus 2 so need to light it up for early morning starts at breakfast club.
John Hoare
Why do so few lights meet the British Standard?
Keith Graham
Yes please! The more I look like a Christmas tree, the safer I feel.
Steve H
if you go out for a cycle at night
make sure to be seen in plain sight
some hi-viz would be great
but you are tempting fate
without fitting a really good light!
Pamela
Yes please. Lights needed for my daughter to commute in the winter
Malcolm
Lights just keep getting better and more affordable, but a free set would be better still, thanksππ
Bill
I have a new bike and now that the nights are drawing in, just need some nice new lights to go with it. Fingers crossed….
KathyC
Bike lights so important even if cycling when its not dark. I’m lucky to have 2 bikes so would be great to update mine.
Steve W
Cateye lights are great products and great value, just what I need for those dark winter commutes
Bryn Jones
I’m 86 & always wear hi-vis when cycling.
And as many good lights as I can.
FRAN MCLEAN
These look great! I’ve treated myself to another bike so now I need another set of lights. Yes please!
Gregory Carpenter
I need something more powerful and stylish to see me safely out of PLYMOUTH until I can reach the High Moors. Then there are badly lit tunnels on the old railway route to Tavistock.

Mark Bobbitt
I’d love to have these on my bike
Trevor Jackman
Great lights can save lives
Sharon
Literally brilliant!
wesley
They look like the proverbial cat’s whiskers.
Steve Green
These would be just the job for riding around the dark country lanes we have here.
Carol W
Ooh 5.30pm here and it’s already getting dark. Important to see and be seen π
Stephen D.
Great choice of prize ETA!
Helen
You just can’t go wrong with these lights.
Jamie J
Illuminating and enlightening…
Ronnie Wishart
Just started cycling to work due to the COVID situation, so these would come in handy for the dark mornings and nights. π¦ π΄ββοΈ π
Rod Hewson
I am an ancient cyclist but not confident to go out after dark. These would help me overcome that.
Gillian
Generous competition and nice reminder to us all to sort our lights for the impending darkness.
Frank Lee
Let there be lights to safeguard my journey through these dark times!
Simon
It’s so important to ensure you’re safe and seen. These lights are just the job!
Mark
I would recommend all cycling commuters to carry back up lights, for when your main ones run out of charge.
If I won, Iβd use these nice ones as my main set and relegate my current ones to backup.
Thanks
PeteG
These are great lights, indispensable with the winter days ahead.
They would be perfect to replace my poor old lights. Yeah!
Jamie
I coukd do with a new rear light. My current one is held on by gardening wire
cay trong
The lights helps draw attention rather than illuminating the road and provide cyclists with greater protection on the roadways.
Khasha
Cateyes are the best
Em Palmer
New lights would be great, although the last time I got knocked off my bicycle in the dark, I was lit up like a Christmas tree! Still, I’d like to think lights help, at least a bit! Stay safe everyone….from cars and covid.
Tim Earl
Hope they’re not real cat’s eyes.
Dave Brabants
My Cytronex lights have just failed so this would be an ideal time for replacement
Charles Harper
Light me up!
Louise Martin
These look great! Thanks for offering us the chance to win them.
Sue fair
Yes to the lights for me please. I have sm old bike and new lights would be a lifesaver
James Russell
Needed. I was doing daily rides with my son during lockdown, and now riding to school every day, taking a detour so that he gets 3-4 miles in his legs before he starts lessons. We need to carry this on through winter to prevent both of us going stir crazy with lack of cycling.
Dean Martin
Yep, deffo need to shed some light on all those ruts. Tired of the sore back from all those jolts as I ride into yet another rut in the road
