How about this to lift the spirits? We have a classic honey coloured Brooks B17 saddle and matching bar tape combo worth over £100 to give away.
Apparently the tape is manufactured from ‘a synthetic textile which has been treated with a polyurethane coating for maximum resistance against abrasion and moisture’, but just as importantly, it looks pretty good too. Whether you run a classic tourer or a fixie, we’re confident the seat and tape will add practicality and flair to your favourite ride.
To be in with a chance of winning, simply leave us a comment at the bottom of this page and let us know what bike you’d fit them to. We’ll pick a winner next week.
According to Brooks: “The B17 saddle has been our best selling model for over a century. First introduced in the 1890s, the B17 has survived virtually unchanged, and has firmly established itself as the saddle of choice for long distance cyclists.”
Are stolen parts covered by cycle insurance?
It’s important to check whether your cycle insurance policy covers components against theft. Are your wheels covered? What about the seat? It’s not uncommon for thieves to steal the handlebars, shifters and all, by cutting away all the cables – would you be compensated if this happened to you? Cycle insurance from the ETA covers all parts against theft without onerous restrictions on the way you use your bike.
For example, while we recommended you lock your wheels, it’s not a requirement – if you are unlucky enough to have your wheels stolen they will be replaced.
Other benefits included as standard are £2m third party, accidental damage, cycle rescue breakdown cover for your bike and you and a sympathetic policy on storage requirements. Find out about these benefits and others that are included at no extra cost and compare it to the competition.

Wow, would be perfect for my 1980’s commuting bike, really make it look even more old school, with it having a skinny steel frame and cantilever brakes.

My wife and I already each have a B17 on our Hetchins bikes but could do with one for our 1980s tandem, and the tape would be just right too.
Elspeth
These and my 1980s Falcon racer were made for each other.

I have a classic 40 year old Mercian Tourer and have owned it from new. I have a black and white photo with me astride it showing off with a full head of hair. I could also send you a revised image of me sporting a new streamlined look: The only thing missing is billiard chalk!

Russ Taylor
Those will go very nicely on my classic 70s Raleigh Racer!

I lost a lovely Brook’s saddle to thieves at King’s Cross recently. The transport police wouldn’t even view the footage on their many CCTV cameras on the bike racks, because the value of it was less than £250. Honestly, what is the point of the cameras if noone will look at the footage? Anyway, would love to replace it…
Mark Bobbitt
Brooks make superb kit. I’d love these.
sean
looks nice on a Brompton
Doug M
My trusty old Claud Butler Classic tourer (1992) really needs a new saddle. A Brooks B17 would be far better than the original one. (26 mm seat tube).
I had a B17 on my first full size bike, in the 1950s!
Eric Ludlow
This prize is mine, and I will Brook no argument…
Bryn Gwyndaf Jones
What could be nicer!
Tom
I have a dilemma – there’s the classic 70s Roberts without a saddle and the equally nice Geoffrey Butler and , since it goes back to the 1890s, it should match my 1930s GA whose Brooks is tatty. But this reminds me that I won a Brooks saddle at the Tweed Run a couple or years ago but it disappeared before it was presented to me.
Bertie
Just what I need for my derrière
Richard
These would be lovely on the old Raleigh I’m doing up. Do you have a chain as well?
Carol W
Can’t get enough of that wonderful Brooks 🙂
Robert Collis
Would be great to replace the aged 1970’s vintage Brookes saddle on my Aerospace Sport.
The tape would be the finishing touch.
Bill
The colours would match perfectly with my old Specialized single speed….And make it much more comfortable, no doubt!
john Richter
I’m an oldie and a bit of a softie on my saddle so a Brooks would be just the job for my Specialised Sirrus Hybrid.
Tim Earl
I say, those rather spiffing! I’d make myself a matching cravat and spats.
Rob Harris
I’ve been considering trying out a Brooks saddle for along time – this could be the encouragement I need! They are a thing of great beauty.
David Elliott
Love Brooks saddles!
Geoff
Fitted to my Specialized Tarmac would be a marriage of the best of the old and the best of the new. That is intelligent progress!
Sarah Brooks
Being a Brooks I’ve always loved the idea of a Brooks saddle on my lovely Ridgeback. Perfection!
Peter Clark
I’d put them on my Specialized hybrid – 2008 model and the least pampered of my bikes. It’s due a bit of love
Jane Collier
Would love to win this for my partner whose saddle and handle bars are wearing out from bread delivering!!
Gary
Aww, I used to have a Brookson seat on my first racer! It was the envy of all – that was until the BMX craze kicked in 😉
I would love this set – would look good on my latest steed (a surly) 👍
Gary

My Classic Cliff Shrub road bike from 1983 would benefit from a classic Brooks saddle as it currently has a rather beaten nylon saddle which I don’t like or find comfortable
Donald Waters
I’ve always been tempted by putting a Brooks saddle on my Genesis CDF but never taken the plunge…
Nick Board
My super duper Genesis Tour de Fer in Forest green, forlorny hanging on my wall snce gingerly negotiating London traffic from the Bike shop to Waterloo station.”How do people do it”?
Awaiting sunnier happier times and a match made in heaven.

My original Brooks saddle has lasted 45 years, but like me it’s getting a bit tired and in need of replacement.
