The Orb is an illuminated water bottle that flashes with 70 lumens of light in a bid to increase your visibility on the roads.
The £30 orange bottle is BPA-free and boasts an autonomy of eight hours on constant mode and 16 when flashing thanks to its USB-rechargeable battery.

The bicycle light arms race
The responsibility for cyclist safety is, unfortunately, placed almost entirely in the hands of those on bikes. Logic should dictate that the larger and heavier the vehicle, the greater its driver’s responsibility for the safety of others, but in reality and in the absence of presumed liability in law, vulnerable road users are forced to make way for others. It’s one of the reasons why cyclists in this country feel compelled to use ever more high-visibility clothing and lights.
You can already buy belts, locks, helmets, handlebars and jackets that light up like a Christmas tree. There may come a day when no single item of cycling gear is available without the option of flashing LED lights.
Ethical cycle insurance
On the face of it, one cycle insurance policy is much like another, but the devil is the detail. Check your small print for so-called ‘new-for-old’ replacement – many insurers use the term, but if your bicycle is more than a few years old, devalue it severely. This means you are left out of pocket when you come to replace it.
With ETA cycle insurance, however old the bike, if it’s stolen you get enough to buy a new model. Furthermore, every cycle insurance policy you buy from us helps support the work of the ETA Trust, our charity campaigning for a cleaner and safer transport future. Little wonder The Good Shopping Guide judges us to be Britain’s most ethical provider.

Just right for some light refreshment!
After drinking the whole bottle will my chest glow too, as in the film E.T?
Andrew
Looks good. Version2 to be have a solar cell to recharge during the day? I have virtually zero electrical knowledge, but solar lights are as cheap as chips down the garden centre and pound-shop!
Stephen
Great utilisation of a bottle cage: Fabulous for improved visibility during darkness.
Gillian
I love a little night time bling. The more the better I say if it makes me more visible to drivers in the dark.
Peter Clark
This would brighten my day. The puns just get worse
J Craven
Blinking heck, that’ll do 2 jobs!

Have you got the bottle to flash? You will if you win this!

Another bright idea for an ETA win.
Yes please!
Richard Hale
Sounds interesting but would I leave it on the bike and have it nicked (one iPhone later)?
Frank
I was born under a wandering star…bring me home 🙂

This is a wonderful use of my used bottle cage for night time commuting. What a wonderful idea!

This is a really good idea, as it makes the cyclist more visible from the sides. A major risk is cars pulling out into a main road just as a cyclist is crossing in front of them. With cycle lights pointing front and rear there is sometimes no light pointing at the driver and if they are only looking ahead they may not see the cyclist. This is no excuse for poor driving but the Orb may make it harder for a driver to claim that “they just didn’t see” the cyclist.
Peter Harrison
A great idea that will make cyclists more visible from the side.
Chris Wrigley
Cool idea

Just moved to London so I’m looking for something to let those drivers know I’m in town.
