British summer weather is so capricious, it pays to be ready to picnic at a moment’s notice. And what better way to enjoy impromptu al fresco dining than by bicycle?
This retro style bicycle pannier from Goodordering boasts 18.5 litres of insulated picnic storage, a padded internal laptop compartment and a sling to carry it on your shoulder.
Jacqui Ma started her firm Goodordering to design a range of bags for urban cycling families and continues to run things from a flat on top of a bike shop in Hackney, East London. Her range of bags includes cycling bags, nappy change bags and toddler bags as well as school bags.
The first range was inspired by Japanese school bags and 80s retro travel bags. 70s and 80s references also give the bags a touch of nostalgia. The bags all have multiple pockets, extra padded straps and are water-resistant and hardwearing.
In case you’re wondering where the brand name comes from, Jacqui explains that ‘good ordering’ derives from the joy and satisfaction of ordering well at a restaurant. “Our family often went out for meals together and after a very satisfying meal, we would all call out ‘Good ordering!’ to mum.”
Win a bicycle picnic bag
We have a Goodordering picnic bag to give away. To be in with a chance of winning the bag, leave us a comment at the bottom of the page and let us know what you’d pack for your picnic.
Please note the clips that attach this bag to your pannier rack ideally suit 8mm tubes. The clips do not fit the wider tubes as normally found on the more retro style pannier racks. Waterproof fabric with padded internal laptop compartment. Distance between attachment hooks: from centre to centre 22 cm.
Ethical cycle insurance
On the face of it, one cycle insurance policy is much like another, but the devil is the detail. Check your small print for so-called ‘new-for-old’ replacement – many insurers use the term, but if your bicycle is more than a few years old, devalue it severely. This means you are left out of pocket when you come to replace it.
With ETA cycle insurance, however old the bike, if it’s stolen you get enough to buy a new model. Furthermore, every policy you buy from us helps support the work of the ETA Trust, our charity campaigning for a cleaner, safer transport future. No wonder The Good Shopping Guide judges us to be Britain’s most ethical provider.

The retro 80’s styling would go perfectly with my 1980’s mountain bike, keeping to the period theme my picnic would contain vol-au-vents, cocktail sausage rolls, a quiche, Monster Munch, and iced party ring biscuits, all washed down with 7-up and Sunny Delight!
All served with Harlequin coloured plastic plates and tumblers of course.
Lucy
Picnic essentials – home made hummus, roasted veg, olives. 1980s touch – Cranks nut roast, sliced cold. And Viscount biscuits….
Gavin Wright
Well the wife would probably pack lots of sausage rolls, sausages, pasta and pizza for the kids. Not forgetting crisps of various descriptions and maybe, just maybe squeeze in a little something for us grown-ups…
Pat Hagen
Just the thing for an impromptu picnic
Rachel Walls
Prosecco, cake and strawberries 🍓
Johnny Faro
My wife or kids could use this and stop stealing my panniers
Janet J
I would love to put that retro picnic pannier onto my Pashley Princess, and would pack it full of veggie snacks, crisps and fruit, and some sparkling water.
Sarah
I’d pack sausage rolls, potato salad, sandwiches, chocolate and cake.
Margaret Williamson
Yes, it’s no picnic trying to take your food to the park without squashing it. These panniers look like the answer – not sure I’d take the laptop along, though, I ride my bike to get away from it. Good that the bag is waterproof – it usually rains when I set off for a picnic.
I would take simple sandwiches, crisps, sausage rolls, fruit cake and fresh fruit. Water or fruit juice drink is already in the bike bottles.
Ema
Ahhh the good old 80s… 🙂
Wendy Ellerker
I would pack my small tent and few essentials. Then ride around taking the views around the UK. While stocking up the miles for my sponsor Brain research a few people I know have died so doing my bit. But help me keep track and sleep in random places. Enjoying the uk and country roads. xxx

What fun! I’d pack a tablecloth, plastic glasses/cups and a flask of iced summer cup (very low alcohol) or hot tea depending on the weather. Small bowls and wooden sporks to eat a selection of various mixed salads. Home made chicken and ham pie. A small melon to chop.
Richard
This would be just the thing for carrying food on my 1930’s tandem – necessary to make up for the effort cycling the retro weight. Obviously cheese and pickle sandwiches and bottles of beer. What more do you need? Perhaps the odd pie …
Steve K
Another great idea for (summer) weekends.
Maybe smoked salmon with wholemeal rolls and a lovely dessert.
But probably just sandwiches and a chocolate bar …
Peter
French bread and hummus. And a Coke Zero 😋
Alan Anderson
Just enough nice weather let for a picnic. Surely it would keep beers cool too…
Mark B
Nice bread, balsamic dip, a little red wine, houmous, many olives, maybe more.
Russ Taylor
I’m struggling to persuade my wife to go cycling with me, but perhaps the promise of a picnic stop en-route would be enough incentive to get her back in the saddle!
Yousaf Mirza
Perfect for entertaining the family on a picnic or my lunch at work. Looks amazing!
Bryn Gwyndaf Jones
Now I’m old, I don’t have a big box on my bike for the weekly shopping.
What I need is exactly what you’ve got.
Ewan Cushan
Would be great – if summer lasts!
Graham Corfield
Nice retro bag with modern styling eh. I’d pack my laptop and mini speaker for some cool tunes whilst I eat a nice mozzarella/tomato/basil panini, washed down with elderflower and apple juice!! Super
Chris Bromwich
Looks a well made bag with plenty of storage and a nice range of carrying handles/straps, don’t think pink is my colour though!
Greg Stoner
P pick-up a picnic pannier, yes please
Helen
Genius.
Denise Robson
I would take on my picnic some Pumpernickel bread, Jarlsberg cheese, gherkins, cherry tomatoes, an apple or any ripe fruit grown on my allotment, such as plums or raspberries, and a few squares of dark chocolate. Also a napkin and water to drink.
Cheryl
Sandwiches and lots of fresh fruit from the garden. Oh and cake, lots of cake.
Phil
That’s a wrap – I’ll take it away thanks
Vincent
1980s style panniers. These would take me right back to my first cycling trip, into South Yorkshire, a beautiful place, to support the miners on the piket line.
Vicki S
This picnic pannier would look awesome on my e-bike 😊 I would pack peanut butter sandwiches, pasta salad with olives and sun-dried tomatoes, my homemade vegan chocolate cookies, fizzy wine and a big bag of crisps 😋
Jim W
What a fantastic idea picnic by bicycle, my picnic would have a pork pie and a piece of cake and then some more cycling to work them off!
Andy Brown
I’d look forward to some sunshine & sushi cycling if I won of these..
Peter Lawson
A perfect picnic bag for a perfect picnic!
Best packed with chilled drinks and fresh, crunchy and tasty crudities, hummus and a sandwich of your choice made with delicious homemade bread. Yummy
Bill
A thermos, a few sandwiches and Scotch eggs. Hopefully we might get some decent weather this year to be able to enjoy a picnic…?
Rod Hewson
My BSA weekender (’75) is crying out for another pannier since one disintegrated.
Frank
Ready to eat at any opportunity😋
Gillian
One of these will encourage us out for more picnics on the bike. Granchester Meadows in Cambridge is beckoning……
Andy
I’d put all my uni stuff in it. Starting in September and would come in right handy for my 14 mile commute each day 🙂
Iain
This looks great – probably stuffed full of sandwiches, crisps and cake for a day out somewhere cars can’t go.
Julie Ward
Homemade bread rolls with hedgerow jam made with berries from my cycling jaunts around the North Pennines. Plus a flask of warm sweet tea.
