Ring in the change of season with this hand-painted bicycle bell

Spring is in the air so what better way to ring in the change of season than a bicycle bell…and a hand-painted one to boot?

When it comes to sound, it’s all in the choice of metal. While the alloy used in the most basic models might be cheap to produce, the flimsy plastic used to strike the dome produces a tinny sound.

Based in Japan, Crane is recognised for creating some of the most beautiful and best sounding bells on the planet. Their Suzu model produces a crisp note that lingers so pleasingly for 15 seconds it could double as a meditation bell. And just in time for spring, they have a hand-painted range.

Win a hand-painted bicycle bell

We have three hand-painted Suzu bells to give away. To be in with a chance of winning one, simple leave a comment at the bottom of this page and we’ll pick a winner next week.

When it comes to sound,  it’s all in the choice of metal. While the alloy used in the most basic models might be cheap to produce, it’s sound is tinny and inferior. By comparison, traditional bell metal comprises mainly copper and has been used to produce the best bells (and on occasion cannon) for over 3,000 years.

The Tsuru bell would look fantastic on my bike and would ring the changes of how I warn people of my presence!
Best not to use it too much while moving if it has a meditation effect, don’t want to be in a trance and fall 🙂

Back to black for me and my machine please. When I get the chance I’ll be down Middlewood Way again, clocking the litter on my outward journey (express) then picking it up on the return (stopper…. As we say in railway lingo. Quite apt for what was the route from Rose Hill to Macclesfield, sadly lost in 1970)
